The GSP is comprised of faculty and administrators representing a range of disciplines within various academic and research units across MSU. Having expertise across the sciences, arts, and humanities is crucial to developing and leading a program with a truly interdisciplinary perspective, providing a strong foundation to meet the goal of training students to be future change agents within Gulf Coast communities.

The Gulf Scholars Program houses a range of disciplines across MSU through science, art, and humanities to provide students with expert training and understanding of issues within Gulf Coast communities.
Students
Students in this program will learn to define and assess issues that incorporate environmental, social, historical, and economic aspects of the Gulf Coast so that they can develop hands-on experience in planning and conducting community engagement strategies.
GSP Faculty
These are the MSU faculty who lead the effort in building an academic program that meets the goals of the GSP. They have expertise in disciplines ranging from environmental science to history to design, all of which plays a critical role in developing the knowledge and skills needed for training future change agents with a focus on Gulf Coast challenges.

Why should I consider this program?
It will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and abilities to confront large-scale social and environmental problems from a variety of lenses. You will receive mentorship, team-science and intercultural competence training, education about a wide range of topics related to the Gulf Coast Region.
Will it cost me any money?
Course options have all regular fees and costs; it is our goal to help students fit those courses into their plan of study in a way that does not add additional cost. Travel costs associated with the Gulf Immersion tour are included in the GSP, costs associated with the Gulf Impact Project will be paid for up to $500 per student.
Who can apply?
Any undergraduate student at Mississippi State University in approximately their second or third year. We highly encourage students from minority identity groups to apply (e.g., students of color, LGBTQIA+, first generation, neurodiverse, disabled, or Veteran students)
